45 terms. From CEFR levels to graduated interval recall. Plain definitions with app-specific context — which tools use each method and how well.
- Streak Mechanics
A streak is a count of consecutive days you've used an app. Language apps use streaks as a retention mechanic. Understanding what streaks optimise for changes how you evaluate them.
- CEFR Levels (A1–C2)
The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages — the global standard for measuring language proficiency from complete beginner (A1) to near-native (C2).
- Comprehensible Input
Comprehensible input (Krashen's i+1 hypothesis) is the theory that language is acquired naturally when learners are exposed to material slightly above their current level — challenging enough to extend knowledge, not so difficult as to be incomprehensible.
- Graduated Interval Recall
Graduated interval recall is Pimsleur's specific implementation of spaced repetition for spoken language — prompting you to produce a phrase at the exact moment your recall is beginning to decay.
- Spaced Repetition (SRS)
Spaced repetition is a study method that shows you information at increasing intervals as you learn it, scheduling review at the optimal moment before you forget.
